You must not have been downtown lately, not sure about the slots but the table games are much better, especially blackjack.  The atmosphere is better downtown also!  I stay both on the strip and downtown when in town, and the ONLY reason I stay on the strip is because of the wife.

I stayed downtown once (Golden Nugget). It was nice, but not as nice as the
average Strip hotels. I wonder why anyone stays downtown, especially now,
when every hotel deals out comps like playing cards. I have not noticed that
the slots (or table game rules) are different from the Strip hotels. Is it
that the food is cheaper? I can't figure it out.
