Well Tony, I sure agree with your thinking, and would vote for it, but doubt it will ever happen or change things. With all the corporate money being funneled into Vegas, along with their bean counters, the profits must be there with all the extra charges like "resort fees" and increased prices of rooms, food and shows. Seems greed has taken over the country. Look at the airlines and all the charges they have come up with. Can't believe they don't have coin operated bathrooms but that may be in the planning stages. I never could see how they could fill up all the new Clubs most of the Vegas casinos have added the last few years. Where does all the "younger" generation get the money for those nights out? I've been going to Vegas since the late 60's and still enjoy the "glitter" and variety that only Vegas can provide. The local casinos just don't do it for me, although I have been giving it a lot of thought lately, and bean counters in Vegas feeds on
idiots like me.... T-23 days to give "them" yet another payment for the year. Do look forward to the direct flights out of Flint with SW.

You know I've been thinking about this topic for a few days and another thought came to mind: With all the other jurisdictions around the country offering legalized gambling (I think 36 states, including NV, now have casinos in them), it's my humble opinion that casinos should be THROWING hotel rooms, tickets, slot play at us gamblers. Of course, I completely concede that's a self-serving comment, but just hear me out. I live in Lansing, MI. I have a casino 1.25 hr North of me, 45 mins South, 3 Detroit casinos 1.5 hrs (SE) from me...I don't NEED to go to Vegas. That doesn't take into account the other casinos in the upper part of the lower peninsula in God's country, or the casino cluster along the 131/94 interstates on the West-Southwest area of MI and into NW Indiana. The majority of these aforementioned casinos I could do on a moments notice (or a day trip). No need for hotel room, use the a couple of the monthly mailer coupons and I'm good to go.
But if the Vegas casinos were to entice me with their offerings of yester-year (2007-2011), I'd be back there 3-4 times per year like I was during said years. You've got a glut of hotels rooms from which you can NEVER re-coup the possible gambling/dining/shopping expenses (save a supped-up DeLorean). Once June 1st, 2013 is gone...all the money that could be spent by me on gambling/food/shows is forever gone. So entice me to come out to Vegas versus day tripping it to the local casino and you'll be back in business, Strip casinos!
Last observation, I think the casinos would do well to remember that the day to day operations are funded by low rollers who grind out their bankroll Mon-Thurs. To cater to the whales and club/pool scene people is short sighted. I don't believe that Vegas is a zero-sum game. Casinos: you CAN have your pool parties and gamblers too! You make plenty enough bank off people who stand in overly urinated swimming pools, give us $5-$25 table games players a break and show some appreciation to our allegiance to your city & casino!
