In the Taj Mahal case, it was a carjacking, and a response, especially
firing a weapon, might have avoided the female companion's being
seriously wounded.
If the Taj, which has had more than enough similar serious problems in
the past, is unable to secure its facilities it does not merit anyone's
patronage. Neither does all of Atlantic City, which the governor
promised a year ago to have patrolled by major contingents of state
troopers because the Atlantic City Police Department was so clearly
unable to deal with the major crime rate.
