In a culture rampant with excessive schaudenfreude, most people expect reviews to be witty, wicked tongue-lashings. However, as Merriam-Webster's explains - a review (or critique) is meant to be subjectively balanced:

Meaning:
[count] : a careful judgment in which you give your opinion about the good and bad parts of something (such as a piece of writing or a work of art)
