There is a difference between a comped room and RFB. If your son just wants a comped room, that will be easier to get (i.e. require less play) than full RFB.

However, as others have said, finding good games on the strip is getting harder and harder, especially at below $5 demons.

His best plan might be to stay slightly off the strip - Hooters, Orleans, Gold Coast, etc. Or maybe even further north - Strat or downtown - Cal, Main Street, etc.

Of course, if he doesn't know the correct strat to play for each game, he'd be better off just paying for a room. Rates are still relatively low, and good deals can be found on the strip.
