according to frugal, the expected return of NSUD when you always hold
wild plus ST3 0i (567-89T) over the bare deuce is 99.72585%. the
expected return when you never hold wild four-straights is 99.72522%.
so your chart as printed is a full 0.0006% better than your chart with
your suggested modification, woo. :)
tossing all those mid-cards decreases the value of the bare-deuce
hold, so even though your average wild+ST4 hold is worse than your
average bare-deuce hold, it's still better to always hold the wild+ST4
than never hold it.
it's the same reason why you hold KTs playing Jacks or Better even
though KTs averages a 2.35 coin return and K averages 2.36; tossing
the suited ten (penalty for ST, FL, SF, RF) devalues the bare king
enough that KTs is usually better.
i'm sure someone who cares would know the exact rules for when you
hold the four-straight and when you don't. dancer has probably written
a three-part series of columns about it. ;)
cheers,
