[vpFREE] Play 1 hand before asking for a drink (Doesn't apply to California).

(1) If not in Nevada, ask if they comp alcoholic drinks. I paid for a $10 drink in California high-limit room because I didn't know that they were only comping non-alcoholics.

(2) Ask what the limit is for comped drinks. At many places $15-20 is the max w/o checking your account or seeing at least $100-1,000 of action. Caesar's high-limit room has $35 max (with no play) - which covers Hennessey XO, but not Johnny Walker Blue. Some high-limit room areas have no minimum play requirement (and no need to show players card), but it varies.

(3) Play 1 hand of something. I was charged $13 for a drink by an annoying bartender because I put my money in & hadn't played a hand yet. Some bartenders will ask you if you want a drink, and after you play a hand, they turn away & do something else.

(4) Put in $100 even if you want to play just $0.25. Some places have a minimum bill-in like $10 or $20 to serve free drinks, but they usually don't hassle a $100. If I want to grab a free drink for someone, I quickly sit at the bar, put in $100, play one hand of $1 VP/BJ. If I win, I tip $1 for the free drink & bring the drink to my friend. If I lose, I still tip $1/drink.

(5) Thanks for the "split tip" advice.

(6) Possibly, you can ask if waiters/waitresses are charged per-drink if you want to be cheap & tip $0.25 or $0.50. But if waiters are charged $0.25/drink, $1/drink might be better.
