[vpFREE] Trip Report

Trip from the end of August to mid September. Two interesting things happened which is why the belated report.

My wife had spent most of the summer in Vegas with her mother and my daughter and grandkids. The plan was for me to fly from the East and for her to fly from Vegas to Denver for a weekend wedding in a ski resort outside of Denver, Keystone. Then on to Vegas for 3 weeks. We were to fly in to Denver about thee same time and stay with our son in Denver, then drive to Keystone. Sonny was originally to pick us up, but became busy at work and suggested we take a bus. After collecting my wife's voluminous luggage, we just missed the bus with another not till one hour later. Sonny suggested we share an airport limo, which we did with a young lady from Nigeria working in London who was visiting. We got to talk to her and the driver and the ride and company proved fine in spite of the driver not being that familiar with the Denver streets. We felt cosmopolitan talking to the African fellow passenger and Middle Eastern driver, who were both friendly and communicative.

After spending a nice day in Denver visiting with Sonny and his girlfriend, we and his dog set out for Keystone. I had the pleasure of driving the Lexis SUV my wife had previously donated to Sonny so he wouldn't miss any skiing. Miracle of miracles, the car was actually clean and the oil was changed a task Sonny assigned to his girlfriend (a keeper). It wasn't even that messed up by Sonny's last minute appointments before the trip. Unfortunately his appointments ran over, so he didn't get to fill up the gas; which I discovered when we existed the highway and the gasoline light went on. With no stations nearby, I had to attempt to summit a mountain and continental divide and make it down. We made it to the top and I coasted down in neutral with the gas gauge needle pinned to the bottom. This kept my attention more riveted than say playing a new variety of video poker for big stakes. The panoramic vistas were more than merely scenic. After making it to Keystone we got gas, on our card, with Sonny not being in the least worried and pleased with the outcome. Then on the hotel to change our draws and to the pre-wedding party. The rest of the weekend proved enjoyable.

Fast forward to Las Vegas. Most of my play was at the west side where we stay, mainly the Rampart, Suncoast and Red Rock. My primary games include 2 pair jokers, NSU deuces, double bonus and super aces. I was down, but not quite as heavily as I might have figured, considering, I had hit no secondary jackpots, 5 of a kind at Jokers, deuces at NSU nor Aces at DB or SA. I was looking forward to the 9.09.09 promotions, especially the nine times points plus drawing at Suncoast. I lost at Jokers there, and I didn't hit the first drawing. Meanwhile my wife had made plans to take our neighbor to T-Bones at Red Rock. If you arrived before 6:00 P.M., everything was half price if you paid with points thanks to 60+ Wednesdays. They were very nice and they honored the half price because my wife and I arrived just before 6 even though our neighbor was late. The meal, wine and company were excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant. However, it ended too late, so I missed the second Suncoast drawing. Wife told me "don't you dare complain" and play at the 5x points for the 60+ crowd at Red Rock. She was going home with our neighbor, but to call if anything good happened. After paying dollar db for about half an hour, I held AJ10 of Ds and pulled the KQ. I called home when they were making out the W2G, etc. Wifey naturally suggested she should get more than the customary 10% because she made me play there. After being paid, I had some money in the machine so I played down to an even number before cashing. Not so fast; the third hand after the machine was reset I held a pair of Js and KQJ of Ss. I held the KQJ (correct at db – thanks Bob Dancer) and the A10 came up. I thought the management might be suspicious, but after paying me and being tipped the attendant merely suggested the third is the charm.

The trip was successful even though I never did hit a secondary jackpot.

David

P.S. When we returned home, and our neighbor forwarded the mail, I got no mailer from Red Rock even though my wife who had much smaller play got a nice one. My wife (who never forgets names, faces, birthdays or gambling winnings "owed" to her) was watching TV and recognized our Denver limo driver, who turned out to be Najibullah Zazi!
