====================================================
Several years ago, at the El Cortez, after having a dreadful
losing day and evening, I decided to play one final Bennie in
a .25c FPKBJW machine, which at that time was located in the
alcove across from Roberta's.

With little optimism, I sat down at an end machine, and drew
my first hand. I was astonished to see a dealt 4OAK. Drawing
again, I almost fell off the stool when I saw a dealt SF! The
third draw produced a dealt 5OAK! In my glee and excitement,
I ruminated on the possibilty of a broken machine. {{O:

Now I was expecting a royal on the next draw. What a
disappointment when I drew a dog. I spent $100 of my winnings
chasing the royal, but it never appeared. After the first
three hands, I didn't see another another decent paying hand
during the remainder of the session.

About 15 years ago, again at the El Cortez, I was playing .25c
10/7DB. I sat down at an end machine on a bank, and soon popped
4 aces. I attempted to cash out 800 quarters, and the machine
ran out of coins. As I waited for a hopper fill, I moved over
to the next machine in the row. The first hand resulted in dealt
4 aces. After playing 10 more hands without a payoff, I once
again attempted to cash out and again needed a hopper fill. Now
sitting at the third machine in the row, the first hand dealt
contained the ace of diamonds and nothing else to save. I drew
four cards to the held ace, and wound up with a diamond royal!

When the slot people finally showed up with bags of quarters for
the hopper fills, they called for a slot supervisor and a camera. He took my picture in front of the three machines. They later
mailed me a copy of the picture, together with lots of free room
and meal coupons.

"Those were the days, my friend; We thought they'd never end....."
