[vpFREE] Re: A Progressive Tale

Chasing royals can be hard work. With a 0.5% meter a double royal should represent about 4 cycles. If you had enough incentives along with the meter to make the 15/9 NSU a breakeven play, and you played min-cost-per-royal strategy, the average cost per royal, or per cycle, would be $20,000. Looks like you ran bad (worse than average) with your $40,000+ loss, but then you said you played some of a lesser game and you probably weren't playing min-cost-per-royal strategy. Still though, it seems wise to know a bit of the game before you go into it, there's about a 0.5% chance of playing off 5 cycles without hitting a royal, in which case the "average" cost would be about $100,000 min. Also, if you don't already have a copy, Frank's book on "Secret World of Video Poker" would be a cheap (in comparison) guide, it includes a recipe for pepper chicken which is consoling. Frank had a money man who would take the hit on a bad beat, so presumably Frank has a more cherry disposition on chasing video poker progressives.
