He accepts work as a consultant for casinos.
Badmouthing casinos (even truthfully) is a highly
dubious move for one who wishes to work for
the casinos.
Let's not be confused here. Bob is interested in helping Bob.
The damage he may or may not have done to the players in Vegas
(and possibly elsewhere) is not on his list of priorities.
He (and the casinos) knows that 99% of his students will not
become expert players and at least a few will probably
lose MORE money at VP because they took a class and think they
have a clue.
I must admit mixed feelings here. We all tend to think of
ourselves as having a common bond and think of the casinos as
our common foe. But truth be told, that division is arbitrary.
Bob owes me nothing. If Bob can make money and I take a hit
financially as a result, is that so different from me teaching
my (now former) wife how to play VP and unleashing her on the
casinos? As gamblers, we accept the idea that we will take
actions that (hopefully) have a negative impact upon some
entity. For poker players, even the distinction of person
vs "evil corporation" is set aside.
So rather than attack Bob for making a choice that would has
not been popular, I'll attack him for being shortsighted at
best, and probably just plain stupid.
In the long run, the VP winnings he has cost himself by
educating casinos will most likely be greater than the profit
from selling his information to the casinos. I know he is not
enjoying nearly as many good plays as he did even a year ago.
I don't think anybody in Vegas is. And he has played at least
some role in the demise of so many plays. What I don't understand
is how he could not have understood this would probably happen.
I have no doubt the casinos would have EVENTUALLY figured
things out, but those clowns are pretty dense and it may
have taken them quite a bit longer than it has.
