[vpFREE] Random or not so random

I know this is not VP but hang in there. To make a long story short I
went to the Winterfest slot tournament at the Flamingo and lost. I had
two sessions for free so that was enough for me. Here is the story.
Both sessions winners (all 4) were buy ins, so the MC said. Only the
first and second place winners qualified. Can this happen? Are these
games (and VP tournament machines) random or can they choose a machine
to hit double diamonds (or royals and quads) more than others? Are the
free entry people just fillers to entice the buy in players to help
defray the costs? They also created a special all buy in session at the
end of the day before the final round.
